2016 Rossini Opera Academy

A two-week seminar dedicated to the challenges
of interpretion in Rossini's works, directed by Maestro Alberto Zedda

LAMP is very excited to announce the dates of our 3rd annual Rossini Opera Academy, to be led by Maestro Alberto Zedda September 18 to October 2, 2016. This year participants will perform La Cenerentola (Cinderella), a work Rossini composed a year after the success of The Barber of Seville at the age of 25 and which features some of his finest writing for solo voice and ensemble. Sponsored in part by the Italian Cultural Institute of Montreal, the course is open to young professional singers and Rossini scholars. Costs for participating in the course are nominal and the number of participants is limited. Auditions will be open to candidates selected from the applicants on the basis of the documentation provided. All decisions are final.

Auditions will take place in Lunenburg on Saturday, May 28, and in Toronto and Montreal June 13 - 19, 2016. Candidates must apply no later than April 15, 2016. Letters of application for admission to the course must be accompanied by a full-length photograph, a curriculum of studies and professional activities, and sent to the address below. The exact date and address of the audition will be communicated to the successful applicants.

Those candidates accepted to the auditions should prepare two full-length arias, one of which must be by Rossini. Ladies applying should be no more than 32 years old, and gentlemen no more than 35. Non-Canadian residents, if selected to participate in the course, will be responsible for the necessary visas, etc.

The course outline includes theoretical seminars, vocal interpretation seminars, and rehearsals leading up to the concert performance of two Rossini operatic works. Participants not selected for the final opera performances will be given the opportunity to perform selected arias and duets in concert.

Maestro Alberto Zedda will be assisted by two of his close collaborators, maestro Anna Bigliardi and maestro Gianni Fabbrini. By the beginning of the course, participants should have already memorised the assigned role according to the indications given by the Academy. Selected participants will then take part in the concluding performances scheduled for Saturday October 1 and Sunday October 2, 2016.

A certificate of participation in the Academy will be given to all at the end of the course.
