Young Artist Residencies

Continue to grow through performance and collaboration opportunities at LAMP.

Now accepting applications for Fall 2026 and Spring 2027!

Young Artist Residencies

Individuals and ensembles are able to apply for an extended residency period at LAMP. Depending on the time of your stay, you will have the opportunity to study and perform with our extraordinary international faculty and your fellow residents in an inspiring, nurturing environment.

You will give regular performances in LAMP’s recital hall, at partner venues across Nova Scotia’s South Shore, and through our extensive outreach program, providing free concerts at schools and senior care facilities. LAMP is committed to community engagement, and artists become dedicated community members during their residency, interacting with a variety of audiences.

Crossover projects are strongly encouraged as this is where LAMP and our arts community can really shine. Interested in the interplay between music and dance? What about an exploration of the boundaries between jazz and classical music? Want to connect with local poets and tell a story through your programming? We are happy to discover these projects with you.

Who’s eligible?

Applicants for a residency must have completed, or be about to complete, an undergraduate music degree in performance; exceptions may be considered for outstanding young performers.

Interested in learning about what others have done?

LAMP is incredibly well-positioned to support your creative ideas through collaboration with local organizations and the arts community. For example, the Rhea-Scherer Duo (cello and piano) worked alongside jazz musicians Nick Halley and Glenn Patscha to explore the crossover between classical repertoire and jazz. Cellist, Julia-Hyunji Lee worked with one of Lunenburg’s art gallery spaces to offer a free Sound & Sketch session where attendees were encouraged to create (through any medium) alongside the her live playing. Rachel Fenlon first performed self-accompanied while at LAMP, and has now made an incredibly rich career of this unique recital style.

We encourage you to think outside the box when applying to your residency! Explore where your musical creativity may lead you and how this residency can influence the future of your career.

*We also are happy to support projects that explore relationships beyond the arts sector - dream big!

LAMP provides a type of young artist training and personalized mentorship I didn’t think was possible. LAMP is a place where one can not only witness great artists but meet and learn from them with unparalleled access: I’ve found myself sitting in a circle with Barbara Hannigan speaking about the trials of a life in the arts one week and reading and rehearsing piano quintets with the Verona Quartet the next. The support, education and opportunities I’ve had here wouldn’t occur anywhere else in the life of a young pianist, and I am grateful to be a part of such a unique and excellent organization.
