We are seeking billets for Fall 2026 & Winter 2027 NOW!
Each year, LAMP welcomes talented musicians to Lunenburg for a variety of academy and residency programs. Many are students travelling from outside the region—even across the world—who rely on the generosity of local hosts for affordable accommodations during their stay. As our programs continue to grow, so does the need for welcoming homes that help keep these opportunities accessible regardless of financial situation.
Generous billets have been at the heart of our programs since LAMP was first established, creating a growing tradition of hospitality that has welcomed hundreds of musicians to our community over the years. You become part of that tradition by offering a comfortable environment where artists can focus on learning, performing, and growing. Along the way, many hosts discover that sharing their home is an enriching experience in itself, often leading to memorable connections and lasting friendships.
Directly support the next generation of musicians.
Anyone with a spare bedroom and a welcoming attitude can billet for LAMP. We welcome hosts of all kinds, from families and couples to individuals with space to share. If you enjoy meeting new people and supporting the arts, we'd love to hear from you! Homes in proximity to LAMP are especially needed, as many visiting artists don’t have their own vehicle and must walk between their accommodations and the Academy.
Billeting 101: A Guide for Potential Hosts
-
A private, furnished bedroom and access to a shared or private bathroom.
Kitchen access is appreciated but not required, as there are kitchen facilities available for use at the Academy.
Access to laundry is also appreciated but not required.
Walking distance to the Academy is ideal, though we welcome hosts who live farther away if transportation can be arranged.
-
LAMP welcomes students/residents(emerging artists), faculty(established artists), and guest performers from across Canada and around the world. These are professional musicians who will be busy at the Academy for most of their stay, and are simply looking for a safe and welcoming environment in which to unwind and sleep at night.
-
The length of a musician’s stay varies depending on the program they are attending, often ranging from a week to a month. Whether you're available to host for a single program or throughout the season, we appreciate any amount of time you're able to offer and will match you with a stay that fits your availability.
-
LAMP clearly communicates all standards of conduct to visiting musicians before their arrival. Each guest is required to review and sign a Policy Agreement , outlining expectations for respectful behaviour and care of their accommodations. All visiting musicians must keep their room tidy, clean up after using any shared spaces, and respect their host’s home, belongings, and rules.
Guests are expected to be courteous and keep you consistently informed of their personal schedules/comings and goings. Musicians often have full schedules that can include evening activities, so they may return home later than a typical workday.
-
Besides providing a private sleeping space and access to a bathroom and (optionally) kitchen facilities, a warm welcome and a brief tour of your home is highly appreciated and helps everyone start off on the right foot. Every household is different, and we encourage hosts to communicate their expectations clearly at the beginning of their guest's stay. This may include quiet hours, kitchen or laundry use, whether visitors are permitted, and any other household rules you'd like them to follow.
You are not expected to provide transportation unless you volunteer to do so. As many guests do not have access to personal transportation, LAMP must prioritize billet accommodations that are close to the Academy and coordinate transportation with our volunteer drivers when necessary.
You are also not expected to provide meals. Guests are responsible for purchasing and preparing their own food.
-
LAMP's billet program is made possible through the generosity of our community. While we are unable to offer financial compensation for hosting, we are pleased to thank our billeters with complimentary tickets to all concerts that are part of their guest's residency. If you are billeting during an Academy, you will also receive an invitation to the final concert’s post-show reception, where you can have a drink and celebrate the students' accomplishments with them, alongside faculty and fellow volunteers.
Many people find that the greatest rewards of billeting go beyond these benefits. Hosting offers the opportunity to form connections with musicians from around the world, while getting directly involved in the vibrant arts culture that makes Lunenburg so special.
-
We want the billeting experience to be positive for both hosts and musicians. If you have any questions or concerns prior to, during, or following your guest's stay, please don't hesitate to contact us at the LAMP office. We're happy to help resolve any issues and provide support throughout the program.
