Tilman Sandvoss, viola
Young Artist Residency Concert
Violist Tilman Sandvoss is an accomplished orchestral, chamber, and solo musician noted for his luscious tone and profound musicality.
His residency program brings together works spanning from the Baroque to the twentieth century, including music by Johann Sebastian Bach, Rebecca Clarke, Georges Enescu, Johannes Brahms, Paul Hindemith, Vincent Ho, and Jessie Montgomery. Together, these works represent the breadth of the viola’s repertoire, highlighting the instrument’s expressive range as both a solo and chamber music voice. The inclusion of Tilman’s own arrangements reflects his ongoing interest in expanding the repertoire available to violists and presenting familiar works from new perspectives.
A passionate advocate for new music, Tilman has collaborated with and given world premieres of works by composers including Vincent Ho, Peter Jancewicz, Brian Current, Jörg Widmann, Julian Anderson, and Huw Watkins. He holds a Bachelor of Music (Honours) in viola performance from The Glenn Gould School and is currently pursuing his Master’s degree at the Hochschule für Musik in Basel.
